By now everyone has read the post in which I was crying about Miss Muffet not having any friends, and my act of desperation to make a playdate happen with a total stranger. I know you've read it because it's been in my top three posts since two days after it went up.
The mother actually took a chance on us and we had a playdate! Obviously, we met in a public place. The venue was this really cool spot that has arts and crafts for kids, and a dance room with wood floors and mirrors, and all kinds of nifty things. We go there a few times per year. We have lots of crafty stuff here at home all the time, so for us there isn't really a need to go pay admission to go make stuff or paint, or whatever, so we treat it like a "change of scenery" kind of place. Some people visit it more frequently and use it in place of preschool. Overall, it's a nice venue, and I'm glad it's here.
The little girl, "Sally," is adorable, and had never been there before. She had a blast, according to her mother. Sally wants to play with Miss Muffet again, so that's a plus. Miss Muffet cannot wait to play with Sally again, so we are going to get together this week.
In fact, on Wednesday, Miss Muffet will be four, so I'm going to have a bunch of cupcakes ready for them to decorate. Miss Muffet loves "cuckakes", adores decorating them, and it will keep them busy for awhile.
After our playdate this last week, Miss Muffet and I visited a downtown bead shop. Sally and her mother followed. Naturally, we bought more beads, not that we actually NEED any, mind you, but Sally and her mother bought a few, as well, so that was nice. The mother told me she wants to do more crafty things at their house, too, so it was nice to introduce her to GOOD beads, instead of acrylic pony beads that most stores have for little kids. Why shouldn't little kids use good beads for jewelry? Not really pricey tourmaline gemstones, or anything, but really cool pressed glass, or inexpensive gemstone chips, or things of that nature are fine, so are seed beads.
That's not to say Miss Muffet doesn't have some acrylic bead jewelry, because she does, but it's not typical, ugly pony beads on fat, flattened, colored plastic craft cord. Eww, shudder.
SIDENOTE: See Miss Muffet's "earring"? hahaha She does not have pierced ears. She wanted earrings, but I'm not poking holes in her ears until she's old enough to understand what's involved and can make an informed choice for herself. Hers is not my body to tamper with. So, we found some rhinestone stickers in the scrapbooking department at Michael's, so now she wears "earrings" with her ensembles! hahaha She loves them.
Hopefully, Miss Muffet and Sally will develop a lasting friendship. If not, that's OK, things happen, and Sally is going to be six in March, while Miss Muffet will only be four this week, and sometimes an age difference like that doesn't matter, and sometimes it does, and it matters in a big, big way. So, we'll just play this by ear, and hope for the best.
